Belated Independence Day!

17-08-2023

-AANAL MODI

India and Indians have celebrated this day for years, remembering and paying tribute to the brave soldiers of the country and their sacrifices. There is a parade on the Red Fort in Delhi, which becomes the centre of attraction for all. In schools, in mohallas, and in government offices, the flag is hoisted, and songs on desh bhakti are played on the DJ. On Independence Day, there is a different enthusiasm in everyone’s mind, and this year the tricolour flag was seen at every intersection; some people were even distributing it for free, so that the national flag waved at every house. Like any other festive day, for a day, it’s nice to see so much happening around.

Yes, only for one day!
The next day, it seemed as if “it’s over”! So, are we supposed to celebrate ‘Independence Day’ every day? Because on any other day we are dependent, right? Whom are we dependent on? on our habits, the same lifestyle that we have become accustomed to, and the same thinking. No matter how many good quotes we read on WhatsApp or the number of stories being made, it still doesn’t change within or around us. Yes, we are dependent; the country became independent years ago, but not by our thinking and habits. The celebration should be for one day, but the spirit should remain for every day. Even on Independence Day, we break the signal, spit on the road, throw garbage on the road, gather a crowd near the hospitals, and take out a rally. Even on Independence Day, our dependence on our own habits does not go away. The citizens of the country and the country became free from slavery, but when will they be free from their thinking and their habits?
