“Children are great imitators so, give them something great to imitate”

It’s not just about children’s smartphone addiction; it’s more about maintaining disciplined mobile behavior as an adult, especially as a parent. Nowadays, parents often express concerns when their child constantly craves a smartphone. Whenever kids spot a mobile device, they treat it as if it’s a novel toy. Parents wonder what makes it so captivating when audio-visual content is already available on television.

The underlying reason is that adults invest significant attention in mobile devices. In the same way that we adults might struggle without our phones, children also become somewhat dysfunctional when they see us glued to our devices. They observe and replicate our behavior. Children simply imitate what they see us doing. When we engage with them in play, games, storytelling, or even just observing birds in the sky, they mirror these actions.

Children learn by emulating us rather than following explicit instructions. It’s crucial to dedicate quality time to our children, focusing on their interests, preferences, and perspectives. Instead of asking them what they did all day, inquire about their plans, ideas, and preferred activities. During these interactions, paying attention to their words, viewpoints, and how they perceive the world holds immense importance. Similar to how we avoid using our phones during important meetings, it’s equally vital to prioritize a child’s presence when they are with us. Just as the matters discussed in a meeting are crucial, a child’s company is equally significant. After all, they represent our future, and we’re investing our present into shaping it. Let’s cherish every moment, ensuring that every moment and effort contribute to their upbringing in a valuable way.
