“Prioritizing the Whole: Embracing Mass Mental Health”

12-08-2023

Recently, I attended a carnival called the “Mental Health Carnival” with my friends. During the event, one of my friends jokingly remarked, “This is all that’s left to do in the name of mental health,” to which I replied that it seems like mental health professionals are left with no other option but to hold such events.

In a way, my response reflected a sad reality. Our society talks a lot about healing and spirituality, but when it comes to seeking help from a counselor or therapist, we hesitate and put-up mental barriers. We try various natural methods to improve our well-being, attempting to boost our dopamine levels, but when it comes to seeking professional help, there’s reluctance.

We may seek advice from friends or family, but we are hesitant to seek the right direction or proper diagnosis because of the stigma and taboo surrounding mental health. This leads many of us to suffer silently and resort to coping mechanisms that may not be healthy.

The stress and pressures of modern life have become somewhat of a trend, and people have come to accept living in this constant state of strain. This has contributed to the growing need for events like the Mental Health Carnival, where people can gather and gain a deeper understanding of mental health in a simpler and more approachable manner.

Such events aim to increase awareness and encourage people to acknowledge the importance of mental health. It’s crucial to let our minds express themselves, uncover our inner struggles, and find relief. Mental health professionals are not merely associated with disorders; they play a vital role in helping individuals address their underlying issues and empower them emotionally.

Let’s break free from the shackles of stigma and embrace mental health as an integral part of our overall well-being.
