Self-Love

We understand the significance of physical nutrition through the intake of food, but what about our mental nutrition? Where do we obtain it?

Self-love plays a pivotal role in nourishing our mental well-being. However, it is depressing to see so many people who are not generous in caring for themselves.

Why do we refrain from engaging in activities that benefit us simply out of fear of judgment from others?

Why do we allow people who consistently hurt us to remain in our lives?

The fear of society’s perception often prevents many from seeking psychological help. Some individuals avoid wearing their favourite clothes due to past wounds inflicted by hurtful comments. They forget to smile and hide their true selves, even when they aspire to stand out among the crowd. Unfortunately, the erosion of self-love can even lead to suicide.

Inherent to our nature, humans possess a default characteristic known as “ANT habit” – Auto Negative Thoughts. Consequently, any action we take becomes subject to scrutiny by others.

It is vital to acknowledge that every action or quality we possess brings forth two types of benefits: intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Intrinsic rewards encompass emotions such as love, happiness, pleasure, and confidence. Conversely, extrinsic rewards relate to materialistic possessions such as money, job status, power, and educational credentials.

True fulfilment and a meaningful existence begin when we cultivate self-love. It is essential to seek treatment for our mental health and find the strength to hold ourselves together even during challenging times. When we truly love ourselves, the opinions of others no longer carry the same weight. We do not need others to tell us we are valuable.

Self-love is not solely about traveling or finding happiness when alone, as some suggest. It is about creating a personal space that nurtures our well-being and surrounding ourselves with people who uplift and bring us joy. Remember, you are the most important person in your life, and your happiness should be treasured above all. It is essential to only keep the company of those who support and inspire you, as life is too short to waste on toxic relationships.

Ultimately, self-love is enough to sustain us – both in our own individual journey and our connection to the world around us. Embrace self-love, and let it guide you towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
